Best Natural Treatment For Gout

Natural treatment for gout has been used for many years already. Its efficacy has been lauded by many gout sufferers. If you haven't tried some of it yet, maybe it is time to start including this kind of treatment. Before anything else, we will have a quick overview of what gout is.

Gout is caused by the over production of uric acid in our body. This uric acid settles in our joints and muscle tissues and forms into sharp crystal-like formations and these cause extreme pain especially when in motion. For many people suffering from this condition, it usually starts in the big toe. This condition is known as podagra. Other joints are also affected such as the joints found in the ankles, heels, insteps, wrists, elbows and fingers.

There are also uric acid deposits that collect and form as lumps under the skin and this will surround the joints. These chalky deposits are known as tophi.

The causes of gout have been attributed to genetics, age, weight, alcohol consumption, diet, lead exposure and also underlying medical condition. 20 percent of the people suffering from this condition have a history of gout in their family. An overweight person is also at a high risk of developing this condition. This is because there are more tissues that are susceptible to breakdowns and can lead to the production of uric acid. Alcohol is also another factor because the substance in alcohol hinders the disposal of uric acid.

Underlying medical issues such as HBP or high blood pressure, under active thyroid functioning, psoriasis and cancer can all contribute to the aggravation of gout.

The most common treatment of gout is with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. This can be taken orally or injected in the area affected. This drug can actually reduce the inflammation.

Although this drug is effective as a relief for the pain, it does not reduce the production of uric acid. This is why there is still a need for other options such as natural treatment for gout.

First, start with incorporating a healthy and balanced diet. Reduce or totally eliminate purine-high food in your diet such as meat. Purine is converted by our body into uric acid causing more acid build up. Drink lots of water to stabilize the acidity.

Regular exercise can also help tone our muscles and our joints and prepare itself from gout attacks. Being idle makes our bones brittle and it can also make you feel weak. Try drinking the juice of black cherry once or twice daily. You can also eat it raw. The juice of cherry helps in regulating the production of uric acid and then reduces the formation of crystals around the joints.

If you are having painful attacks, try applying ice to the affected area. This is a natural remedy that can provide immediate relief. The ice will reduce the pain and inflammation.
