Cystic Fibrosis and Diarrhea - What You Need to Know

One of the most common diseases caused by cystic fibrosis is diarrhea. It is characterized by very soft or watery stool, unfinished bowel movement, urge to move the bowels after eating, and stool incontinence. This is one of the most uncomfortable disorders that a person could have because there is always the need to go to the toilet to evacuate. Once the thick and sticky mucus is produced and got in the pancreas, it will block the canal where the enzymes and the insulin will pass in order to get to the digestive area. These are essential to maintain proper digestion and without these, the system will have difficulty and will result to digestive problems just like diarrhea.

You might also notice that your stool appears greasy or slimy. This is because of the abnormally thick and sticky mucus produced by the glands due to cystic fibrosis. If not treated immediately and appropriately, this could lead to a more serious condition. Diarrhea is a dangerous disorder and it could be fatal especially among children and babies because it could lead to dehydration which could also lead to death. There are also some cases of diarrhea where the patients suffer from mild to severe abdominal cramps or pains.

If you or someone you know is suffering from diarrhea due to cystic fibrosis, it would be better if you could get him to drink water or oral rehydration solutions that are specifically developed to replace all the lost electrolytes in the body. This is to prevent dehydration and to restore the body's lost energy and minerals such as sodium, carbohydrates, and potassium. If you noticed more symptoms have developed like high fever, frequent vomiting, or presence of blood in the stool, you should seek medical help immediately by calling your doctor or rushing the patient to the nearest hospital or medical institution.

The doctor or medical provider could prescribe a drug that can help stop or reduce diarrhea. There are some drugs that can absorb the water in the stool and could help the rectal muscles relax to reduce the urge to evacuate. For more complicated cases, antibiotics or other stronger types of drugs could be used. Your doctor will be able to determine the best type of medication for you just make sure that you will inform him about your current medical condition like your allergies, diseases, and other things that he should know about. You have to remember that even though diarrhea is considered to just one of the symptoms or a disorder associated with another disease like cystic fibrosis, it should not be ignored because doing so could cause more serious health problems.

Rehabilitating the Endocrine System to Heal Depression

Holistic Treatment of Depression

Depression is not emotional sadness - though its most common symptom is sadness. We treat depression as an imbalance of the endocrine system, the hypothalamus, pituitary and pineal gland axis in particular.

You see, sorrow and hardship have always been part of life on earth. When our ability to manage life in all its colors diminishes, its not natural. The loss of ability to deal with life's highs and lows, is what we classify as depression.

The endocrine system manages the way our bodies and even minds react to life. When there is an imbalance in this system, we feel unable to manage the situation, confused and hopeless. We find ourselves unable to find pleasure in life and this makes everything look so boring, futile and so we lose interest in life, and are unable to motivate ourselves in the direction of our dreams anymore.

The key to healing depression effectively is to bring the endocrine system back to normal function, the Hypothalamus - Pituitary - Pineal Axis in particular so our ability to manage pain and pleasure comes back into balance. Chemical intervention is just a very temporary solution and could further the imbalance.

Rehabilitating the Endocrine system to heal Depression requires the following:

1) Correction of the sleep cycle

Ideally every human needs a stable 24 hour sleep - waking routine. Stability is the key to a balanced sleep routine. The body will adjust and work with to any 24 hour routine if we demonstrate a commitment to that routine. To heal from depression in a real way, means changing our sleep-waking pattern to a stable consistent one. It is going to be difficult with the endocrine system being already upset, but don't give up. Just keep going diligently and it'll be well worth the effort.

2) Correction of light-darkness exposure

We need to have an equal amount of exposure to both light and darkness. Our bodies depend on light for a whole lot of metabolic and endocrinal activity (not to mention Vit. D synthesis through the skin). We actually live on sunlight in many ways, and many important bodily functions are timed to the sun cycle. To heal from depression, we need to stringently correct the amount of exposure we have to light in general and make that as much actual sunlight as possible, rather than artificial light. In most cases all this means is, opening the windows and curtains of your house so that during the day, sunlight comes in boldly. This also means turning off the lights at least an hour or two before your sleep time, so you get waking time in darkness.

3) Balance electric signals in the Brain and Nervous System

This is very important because if the electric signals in the nervous system can stay more or less stable, it means more stable moods, emotions and the ability to manage stress better.

One of the ways this can be done, is by following a regular schedule of doing breathing exercises. These should be gentle - that involve holding breath in your abdomen for as long as you can without straining yourself. The aim is not to simply breathe right for some time every day, but to change the way you've been breathing all along, to get back to how you breathed as a child. This is long term insurance against any energy imbalance in the cells of the body, and reduces stress so drastically its amazing.

Obesity Crisis in America

Americans are still fat and getting fatter. However, we have slowed down are rate. For 2/3 of states, more than a quarter of adults are obese according to the Trust for America's Health. To be obese, one must exceed a BMI of 30.

The largest offender of obesity is the southern United States. Mississippi is the fattest state in union. Over a third of people in Mississippi are considered to be obese. Of the top ten states with highest rates obesity, eight of the states belonged to the south. Adding to the trouble, the south has a high rate of diabetes and hypertension. The region is also known for having low amounts to physical activity.

However, exercise does not always correlate with exercise. This comes as a big surprise. While most of the states that have high obesity rates also have high inactivity rates, there are some exceptions. New Jersey ranks high inactivity but has a low rate of obesity. There were only four states that landed on both the least obese and most active lists: Hawaii, Utah, Vermont, and Colorado. These results indicate lack of exercise is not the only factor contributing to the trend.

Schools are working towards reducing obesity in children. Nineteen states require nutritional standards of school food to be above what is required federally. The requirements are not just for lunch but for snacks and drinks sold in machines. Thirty states have enacted a snack tax to reduce unhealthy eating. Researchers praise these steps saying habits learned in school carry on throughout adult life. The main reason kids are overweight though is overeating.

While food is improving, kids still need to exercise more. More than two thirds of kids ages 6 to 17 do not participate in vigorous form of exercise such as playing a sport. Vigorous exercise is defined as any 20 minute activity that causes heavy breathing and sweat. Since exercise is important for developing kids, these statistics are a cause for concern.

With the economy struggling, obesity rates are likely to grow. Nutritious foods are more expensive, and people have difficulty affording those foods. Stress also leads to people stopping their physical activity.

Quitting Smoking Hypnotherapy

Stopping smoking in the UK is being encouraged not only by education and the effects of smoking but also by legislation and the restriction on where smokers can smoke.

For years UK health bodies have attempted to persuade people to quit smoking by showing them images of smokers who have suffered with some of the most debilitating diseases connected to this life-threatening habit. Of course the government of the day has supported the advice to quit but at the same time collected 85% or more in taxes of the price of a packet of cigarettes. Taxing alcohol and tobacco use has always been a useful source of income to any government.

Today, though, and some would say, finally, the government has made it more difficult, or awkward to indulge in smoking. Smoking cigarettes, pipes and roll ups, and in fact any form of smoking tobacco has now been banned from public places.

Workers in factories and offices now have to step outside of their work building in order to have that cigarette. People who socialise in public houses or bars now also have to step outside of the building to smoke. Many pubs have constructed designated areas for smokers. These areas are not allowed to be enclosed, so some pub chains have covered area that may have walls on two sides to give some protection to smokers from adverse weather.

All of these measures, the horrific images of organs that have succumbed to smoking poisons, the videos of smokers who are still alive but whose quality of life is impaired, the dire warnings on each packet of cigarettes and the restrictions on where you can smoke are working. They are working from the point of view that more and more smokers are deciding to become ex-smokers.

The only question for many smokers is not "if" they want to stop it is "how" will they stop smoking. Most smokers will during their time as a smoker have had a number of attempts to quit smoking. Most will have tried will-power or cold turkey where they use no other form of support to quit with. Others who have failed at quitting a number of times will try patches, gum, lozenges and zyban. They may still fail.

More often than not it is the failed quitters who seek one-to-one help to finally stop smoking permanently. Hypnotherapy is proving to be the quit smoking method of choice for many people.

A quit smoking hypnotherapist knows how to help smokers change their perceptions about what smoking is and what it isn't. This change of perception combined with suggestions in the form of hypnosis help support a change of mind. Often people who have struggled to quit before find it so easy to quit with hypnotherapy.

The success of hypnotherapy as a quit smoking method has led to the spread of hypnotherapy practices throughout the UK. Quit smoking hypnotherapists can now be found from Ipswich to London, Manchester to Birmingham. Wales and Scotland particularly have access to hypnotherapy smoking cessation services.

Some hypnotherapists focus solely on helping smokers to quit. Many hypnotherapists offer a range of help with other issues that may be connected to the reason for smoking such as stress, anxiety, relationships, alcohol intake, coping skills, low confidence and old habits that have yet to be dropped.

With so many hypnotherapists available in all counties of England, Wales and Scotland anyone in Suffolk, Essex and Surrey can find help. Large cities such as Birmingham, London, Glasgow, Manchester and Cardiff whose lifestyles have been encouraged a tendency to smoke have some of the most successful practices offering stop smoking hypnotherapy.
